Luke's family, whose journey with childhood cancer inspired the founding of Luke's Legacy Foundation

Why we exist

Luke’s Legacy Foundation honors Luke’s life and courage by bringing comfort, joy, practical support, and meaningful experiences to children and families facing childhood cancer, grief, loss, and other difficult circumstances.

Our Foundation & Mission

Built From Luke’s Courage. Created to Do Good.

Luke’s Legacy Foundation began with an unforgettable little boy and a promise: Luke’s name would continue to bring comfort, joy, and hope to others.

An Unimaginable Loss & A Living Promise

Luke faced childhood cancer with extraordinary courage. Much of his journey took place on 4 Henson at Children’s Mercy Kansas City, where he endured challenges no child should ever have to face.

Throughout it all, Luke remained deeply loved, completely unforgettable, and so much more than the illness he fought.

After Luke passed away, the people who loved him were left with an unimaginable loss—and an enormous amount of love that still needed somewhere to go.

That love became Luke’s Legacy Foundation.

Turning Love Into Action

We created this foundation because we wanted Luke’s legacy to be more than a memory.

We wanted his name to become a source of comfort for a family entering the hospital. A moment of happiness for a child facing difficult days. Practical help for a parent who suddenly finds life turned upside down. Support for siblings and families learning how to carry grief.

The best way we know to honor Luke is to do meaningful good for others in his name.

“Luke’s Legacy Foundation is not intended to be a memorial that stands still. It is a living legacy—one that grows through every family supported, every child comforted, and every act of kindness inspired by Luke’s courage.”

Kindness in action, every day

Luke’s Legacy is guided by the family who loved him deeply. As his parents, uncle, and aunt, we understand the weight of childhood cancer, hospital life, grief, and the difference a small act of comfort can make. Together, we turn our love for Luke into meaningful support, joyful experiences, and lasting good for children and families.
